Ray BAN

I have a love/hate relationship with the Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. I used to hate them, until I came across my love. They were red with tortoise shell. For some reason I was drawn to them. I put them on and I didn’t laugh at them. In fact, I didn’t want to take them off. I found a pair of Wayfarers that I not only liked, but loved. I bought them and put them on. It hurt me to take them off. This went against everything I have ever said, but I didn’t care. Suddenly I got it. Not only did they look right, they felt right too. They were the most comfortable pair of sunglasses that I have ever put on my head. I can’t believe it took me so long.

So I had those for about three months before I lost them. I was so annoyed, but it was December and I still had my trusty Tom’s, so I didn’t bother with the repurchase yet. Plus I was going to London – who wears sunglasses in London? Maybe I could get a good deal. So I left the USand didn’t think about them again. Until a couple of weeks ago. Sun had begun to peak through the clouds. I am as pale as I have ever been. I wanted to get some sun. My Tom Ford’s cover half of my face. This means my forehead and my chin are tan and in between isn't. Awkward. I now start wishing I had my Ray Ban’s.

Waddles and I were walking home from the gym last weekend and it was all bright and sunny. I spotted a sunglasses store and popped in to re-buy my long lost love. Of course they have every color in the world except the one I want. No worries. That was only my first attempt. I will find them soon. So we walk along to Portobello Rd for the market. It is a nightmare in itself, but the Falafel Man is WELL worth the wait. (Thank you London, I have found a falafel as good as the Falafel King.)

As we are standing there I start looking around and realize that a lot of people are wearing sunglasses. I know it may sound weird, but I have heard people say that they can spot the American’s because they are the one’s wearing sunglasses. It’s not a very sunny place. I haven’t seen a lot of people in them. But now I am realizing that not only are they wearing sunglasses, they are ALL wearing Wayfarers. Maybe not all, but I would have to say 75%. Guys and girls alike. So much so that even Waddles commented on the situation and told me a may want to rethink my purchase and try to start a new trend.

Now they are everywhere. Wherever I go, it’s like people put them on just to walk by me and rub it in. So now, while I long for the most comfortable sunglasses ever, I just can’t bring myself to re-buy them. At least not to wear here. And what if it’s the same thing when I get back to NYC? Will everyone be wearing them there too? I can ban myself from the Ray Bans here, but will I be able to do it forever? They are so comfortable. I am so torn. Stay tuned…
